Power Demand
Apple suggests that their consumers using electricity on their devices use make up 22% of their carbon footprint whilst affecting the personal carbon footprint of each customer. They have begun to develop groundbreaking hardware and software that aids in the climate change fight by requiring less energy even while in use.
Apple devices consistently rank among the high-performing products rated by ENERGY STAR®. And the transition to Apple silicon in Mac computers has significantly increased product energy efficiency — Mac mini consumes up to 60% less energy while in active use than the previous generation.
They went further to describe that their technology works by intelligently by managing the power consumption of each device. One example of this is their new IOS 16 feature called Clean Energy Charging, that is able to detect when a device is connected to a clean energy electric system before it begins to charge thus only using clean energy, says the company. Unfortunately, this feature is only tested and implements on US soil and is not at other parts of the world as yet.
Below you will see a snapshot of how to enable the Clean Energy Charging feature
